The letter that came at the right time

Guess my priorities 3 years ago and now have still been the same. Does that mean that i've not changed at all (meaning my priorities are still wrong?!)

I dont know, but i really hope that's not the case!

And, my life is still as stressed up and busy as it was in the past. At least this is not because i bog myself down with extra stuff... (i think?) i don't know. it still feels the same, like indancity is taking up too much of my time already! (not like there's dance now, but when it comes, its gna be crazy!)

Sigh. Stopped dance for 3 weeks and i feel the withdrawal symptoms creeping up on me already. This is terrible. How am i ever gonna stop dancing?!

I guess life is a circle. We always come back to a similar situation. The only difference is how you handle it. I took everything pretty well the last time (i think), hope i can handle it well now too.

Thoughts are going crazy everywhere.

Its been ages since I've last blogged... And things have changed so much from my sheltered DHS life. In 3 years and a bit, I'll be out there in the working world, earning my own keep, and the prospect really scares me, 'cos even today, I'm not sure if I really know what I want...

SMU has been a whirlwind of fun, joy, and ultimate mugger. Despite having so much work to do, I guess I have to really be grateful to university life for opening my eyes to so many things. Maybe not so much of uni life, but more of the friends I've made that have helped me to maybe mature a bit along the way. From friends with single parent families, to those already working to pay their school fees, not to forget those who face family health issues and woes... I've really learnt not to take family for granted. I know I still do, but I'm working towards setting my priorities right. I really don't want to regret later on in life. I guess the it is inevitable to die, but I don't want to regret not doing more.

New friends have also made me treasure the old. Old is gold. I miss the safety and security of DHS friends - they really feel like family. They know you inside out, and can read you like a book. In uni there are so many hi-bye friends, its a little sad.

Despite having Pacman (and I'm not complaining), there are still occasions whereby I miss DHS. Like how the M&Ms can tell when you're sad, even if you don't say it out loud. The stupid and childish things we laugh over, the mugging tgt, eating and studying and dancing together. I guess its rlly true, the only things that remain are the memories, but I will rlly keep and treasure what we had.

University life is a little crazy, you always have something on. But I guess its good preparation for work life - which I'm really dreading. I don't wanna grow up and face all the scary things that adults have to face. I still want my sheltered life where I can study and play and go out with my friends. Guess my time is ticking away. Very soon I'll be missing university and complaining about work life. I guess we are never satisfied.

Well its only sem 1, and I have about 7 more to go. I should keep my mind and options open as to what I wanna do in the future I guess. Probably one of the good things about not specialising. Actually, if the rest of my semesters play out similar to sem one, I just might rlly enjoy uni life :) we'll see :)

Back from Sarimbun!

I miss my kids already.

I've learnt so much from them, but there's too little time for me to tell them what. Wish i had more time to debrief and talk to them. Sigh.

Right from the beginning i wasn't expecting much from them. Expected fighting and arguments and lots of trouble. But they managed to control themselves and even backed off before the arguments turned into fighting. Was never expecting this level of self-control and mature thinking, so i was really happy to see that they managed their situations maturely.

Altogether, 3 arguments almost broke out into fights - the guys had to help restrain their classmates. Thank goodness for fellow classmates who spare a thought for you and help you think straight when you're not.

As a side note, I've never ever met a group of kids who enjoyed human entanglement as much as they did. They played it 3 times altogether spontaneously. Crazy funny kids. I enjoyed watching them as much as they enjoyed themselves playing (: Thiv and I laughed till our stomachs ached.

I'm grateful to them for being so pro-active and helping out whenever i needed it. Although they do dawdle, at the end of the day, they still get things done efficiently. The best group title is well-earned. (: Also, despite having to wait and watch during some mass activities, they NEVER wandered off and would always sit nearby to observe and learn. I was really pleasantly surprised that i didn't have to chase after lost or bored sheep.

They worked well together as a team, communicating well and functioning as a single entity. I was really happy with how they handled the mass activities. There was no assigned leader in the group, but the kids somehow managed to get by by listening to each other. It's something I have rarely seen before. If there was one way I could put it across, I would say they are selfless. They think for the group rather than think of only themselves. This is something they could definitely be proud of as a class.

Even as other groups faltered and failed to work together during performance prep, this class never did. Although many didn't want to dance, they still practiced and worked hard together during the choreographing of the dance and even gave feedback or added new steps in. Not one of them complained about practicing for performance prep. This attitude is definitely much better than many of the academically stronger schools out there, and something for them to be proud of.

I don't regret taking up outdoor camps despite the lousy pay. After this camp, I really believe I can learn things from the kids that i'd never be able to learn in an internship or in other jobs. They have made me reflect on how I tend to stereotype and generalize them, and how I am completely and utterly wrong. I probably learnt more from them than they from me.

I hope these kids really did take something away from the camp (other than the dirt and sand). I believe they have a bright future ahead of them, and i hope and pray hard that these kids will do well in life. I quote Thiv "QE1101B FTW!" (:

Well, the summit's almost over. There's still Closing Dinner tmr.

It's been a hell of a ride, and its almost at its end. Who knows whether there'll be another summit next year? (Well there should be, 'cos Mr Chang wants to me collate all my documents so he can forward it to the Logistics next year). In any case, i'm just damn glad its over.

I would like to express gratitude to ALL who have taken the initiative to extend a hand to help the logistics team when we were in need of it. Eustance, Glad, Zi Le, Simin, Candice, Kang, Amanda, Siyuan, Auntie, Elizabeth, and Xianan. Thank you so much for all the help rendered. Logistics wouldn't have had been so successful if it weren't for you guys.

Also, to my dearest Logistics team, mainly Boon, Rebecca, Yunjin and Ash during the summit, thank you for always being there, and being so reliable. I'm glad logistics has had each and every individual one of you to help prop it up. I'm really proud of how each individual member has grown. A little for some, a huge leap for others. From the entire department ponning the Second General Meeting, to such a responsible and reliable department today. I'm really proud of us all. (: I can't fully express the gratitude and pride i feel for this department in words, but i'm sure they'll understand deep in their hearts, exactly what i'm trying to say.

And last but definitely not least, to Mr Chang, our in-charge of the summit, who has gone all out, and put in his 200% to ensure that the summit would be a success. From sleeping @ 3am and waking up @ 5 to print documents, to last minute requests, and to always being there for every single one of us. The entire OC owes a huge debt to this wonderful teacher, and it's a pity he might not continue to be the head of ISAC for the upcoming years. Thank you Mr Chang, for the hard work and dedication. Your efforts are acknowledged and greatly appreciated by the entire ISAC. (:

I've grown much, I've learnt much. Some about the world, some about people. Not all good, but not all bad either. I guess i'm just grateful for this experience that i've been given. Thank you to all who have been part of it, and rest well (:

Within the span of 1 hour, Kow and i met 3 mutual friends. How coincidental.

Brought Mich to ECP to bike today.

I swear the tricycles there are HORRIBLE. Or at least that from one rental shop. Don't rent tricycles there. I swear the training wheels are not even balanced properly. Urgh.

Poor Michy fell down like 4 times. And she's one hell of a biker. She brakes every 10 seconds, and crashes into bushes along the lanes. When she gets her driving license like 13 years down the road, everyone please steer clear.

The last time she fell her tricycle totally fell onto her la! And she wailed loud enough to waken the dead -.- Luckily there was this nice Malay guy who helped to pick up her tricycle and wheel my bike over to where she fell. Singaporeans are really nice. Or at least some are.

On not such a happy tone, the juniors got Gold for SYF.

To my dear juniors, its inevitable to feel sad, as you all have relly worked very hard for the SYF. However, it's the effort and the process that relly counts. What you've learnt, how you've matured within this past year is the most important thing of all.

10, 50 years down the road, people probably will not be able to remember what DHSCS Wudao got for SYF in 2009. However, the lessons learnt and hardships shared will not be forgotten by any of you.

I'm proud to see that many of you have improved relly alot within the past year, both expression-wise and ganqing-wise. It's relly heartening to see wudao improve in leaps and bounds. Your hardwork has shone through, and it has made all of you all better dancers. You all have the people around you, and yourself to thank. Don't feel sad, feel proud of yourself. Even with all the gruelling training, yall didn't give up, and that is relly something to be proud of.

Doing your best on-stage is enough. At least you know that you've done yourself proud, you've done CS proud, you've done the school proud. Even if the "Gold" doesn't come "with honours", it doesn't matter. At least, all of you didn't leave the stage with regrets, and reflect on how you could've worked harder, could've practiced more, could've stretched harder. You have done your best, and essentially, that is all that matters.

SYF does not reflect on the capability of the wudao group. It does not reflect the hardwork, sweat, and toil that are behind the scenes. It does not reflect the attitude and the closeness of the group. SYF is not a proper gauge of your abilities. Even if other schools may get gwh, they may not have the family-like closeness of DHSCS Wudao. They may not have put in as much hardwork, or have had as much dedication.

You must remember that although the performance and competition is important, it is not all there is to dance. To dance, to express. Rejoice in the fact that SYF has brought all of you closer together, and given all of you the opportunity to laugh, cry, sweat and toil together. Be grateful for this opportunity you have been given.

Do remember the experiences that you have had, and don't forget them. Experiences like these don't come twice. SYF was a milestone that all of you have crossed together, as wudao. Treasure these times together, and treasure all the bonds that have been formed. This is the most important thing of all to remember. No matter what you girls have gotten, you deserved it and more. In all our hearts, we will remember that DHSCS Wudao, is a group worthy of gold with honours, and probably even more.
